About Us

The UBUNTU Centre is a support centre, funded by donors and philanthropists and impact payers, to work on an integrated Water4Peace approach, to help local communities in extreme harsh livelihoods where water scarcity, heavily affected by climate change with extreme periods of drought and flooding to alleviate poverty, decrease conflicts between pastoral tribes and regreen the environment for a more sustained future.The UBUNTU Centre is undertaken under the Northern Pastoralist Youth Development Organisation (NPYDO), an officially registered community based Organization (CBO) operating in Marsabit Central District Saku Sub-County of Marsabit County. The Organization was established in the year 2016 by like minded youngsters. The principal objective for the formation of the organisation was to bring hope to the youthful population of Saku constituency.

The same has been besides and bearing in mind the high level of poverty, illiteracy , ignorance and diverse culture of the communities living within the target locality of the project. The organization envisions to addressing in all ways possible to eliminating this and bring hope to the entire people living within the target locality.

Let's Meet Augustine Orengo Lenamoe

Augustine is the Water 4 Peace Practitioner in Kenya. Augustine is the founder of the NPYDO that has successfully developed all kinds of activities that supports the communities and its members, showing them how self-supply is within reach with local resources, simple solutions and basic knowledge. The UBUNTU Centre is both an education space and demonstration space. As a Water 4 Peace Practitioner he shows by very practical examples how vulnerable communities in extreme livelihoods can make themselves more self-reliant, avoid conflicts due to water scarcity and empower themselves by non-formal education on specific skills and expertise on English, maths, water, food, renewable energy, regreening, ICT basic skills and technology. To practise this he developed the UBUNTU Centre in co-creation with the local community. At the UBUNTU Centre empowerment of women, girls, children by education goes hand in hand with bringing Morans, young male warriors, from different tribes together to jointly work on water harvesting, regreening by tree-planting and Water 4 Peace tournaments that enhances mitigation of conflicts and collaboration in peace.
