The first rainwater harvesting facility in the UBUNTU Centre was built by hand in 2018 by a group of young people by digging a huge hole and covering it with a large nylon cloth. A total of 7,000 liters of water could be collected. A smart, simple construction that still works and can be filled with water brought by a truck in the absence of rain.
The second rainwater collection was built in collaboration with Henk Holtslag from the Netherlands, initiator of the well-known SMART Centre Group. During training in one of the Smart Centres, Augustine learned how to build an underground water collection including a pump system and then made this as a demo in the UBUNTU Centre. So that he can teach other young people how they can do this themselves in their own communities and start their own start-up.
In 2024, we want to create a large rainwater catchment in the UBUNTU Centre to plant and care for more trees. This water catchment, like the first one, will be made by hand, because we can do it ourselves, low budget, from the power of young people.
